AREVA T&D Partners With Kreiss Johnson Technologies to Deliver Advanced Substation Automation Solutions

Joint solution helps electric power companies leverage untapped T&D measurement data to improve system performance.

Bellevue, WA. – June 29, 2004 AREVA's T&D division*, a leading provider of products, systems and services to the electric transmission and distribution industry, and Kreiss Johnson Technologies (KJT), a leader in power information management solutions, announced their partnership today to provide Advanced Substation Automation™ solutions to the electric power industry. The partnership has been designed to allow companies to focus on their core competencies where AREVA will have exclusive rights to sell KJT's technology and support KJT's product roadmap to develop an expanding suite of intelligent analysis applications.

Today's SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) and energy management systems address only real-time, operational data like analog values and status events, while the more complex waveform and fault data, or "non-operational" data, are excluded from analysis. AREVA and KJT's Advanced Substation Automation solution collects and stores ALL operational and non-operational substation data on a single platform and offers automated analytic tools for processing the data. The software's analysis modules are then configured to meet the specific needs of the utility to achieve specific cost reduction and reliability targets. This data not only offers the answers to questions regarding the current state and health of a utility's T&D system, but it has the ability to diagnose a problem before a catastrophic event occurs. One of the biggest challenges a utility has is turning the multitude of data from the grid into something that provides a direct financial benefit." said David Kreiss, President of Kreiss Johnson Technologies. "The data is already there. Our goal has been to develop an automated system that allows utilities to take actions that assures them an ROI on their investment."

David Allen, Director of Substation Automation at AREVA T&D in Bellevue, WA, added, "Current market conditions make it clear that the electric industry needs to apply technology such as this as quickly as possible to aid in the effort to proactively work to prevent blackouts and brownouts, and provide a more reliable, stable supply of electricity to the nation."
